Rob, thanks a million, I'm pretty bad with this, generational gap. Thanks, I will post some photos now. That's Jerry Gallwas with the wooden peg that John Mendenhall used in 1947 to free the first pitch of the OPEN BOOK on Tahquitz. To Jerry's left is John Long, to his right Joe Fitschen.

Very cool event. I wish I could have been there.
Did Joe talk about his Fitschen's Folly adventure :?:

Jane Taylor-Levy wanted to celebrate her 50th anniversary of climbing on Tahquitz. She knew a few climbers, so she invited them to Idyllwild, to attent the Historical Society and the Idyllwild Community Seaker Series event about the golden age of Tahquitz/ Suicide climbing, and to join her in celebrating all those years of climbing on Tahquitz. Jane's climbing buddies showed up and the evening was really something. Several SP members were there, so they cam tell us what they thought of this event. If anyone of you is here in Idyllwild on the weekend, come see the Tahquitz/Suicide exhibit at the Idyllwild Historical Society. It is really good. Some very rare, original pieces of gear and the first ever guidebook to Tahquitz (among many other items) are on display.

Looks like Yvon was a no show, but I'd say the real surprise was that Kris owns a jacket and button down shirt!

Very cool! Looks like it was quite an event!

On a (somewhat) related note, I am curious- anybody know how it came to be called the YDS, vs. the TDS?? It was developed in/around Taquitz, correct (Yosemite Decimal System does have a more noble ring to it, but the heart of the matter remains)? [/i]
