They should permanently close the highway and let the area revert to pristine wilderness! Oh, wait...is this not the Angeles Crest Highway thread?

Whoa Nelli usually opens around the end of April .. sweet :)

Noticed this on tuolumnemeadows.org -

As of 3/27/10 Tuolumne Meadows has about 64" of snow. The 2010 snow survey says we have normal to slightly above normal which is great news as the last several winters have seen below normal snow pack.

[...]

With the below average snow pack the last 3 winters the opening dates have been May 11(2007), 21(2008), 19(2009) so maybe look for a early to mid June opening. Some locals have mentioned the end of June. This is of course all dependent on the weather so if we get a really hot dry spring it could be early June.

And that was before the last couple of feet fell .. I hear 4' fell in Sequoia during the last storm. NWS is forecasting 2-3 feet of new snow in the southern sierra by Monday night.

Interesting range of dates, from 29 April to 01 July.

I remember being there on 14 June 1995, and it was still closed. We learned that a snow-removal person had been killed two days earlier in an avalanche (or similar) while driving heavy equipment, but now I can't find any info on the Internet regarding this.
