"Hike" the entire Mount Whitney Main Trail (up) on YouTube!

In 40 video-clips, of 8 to 10 minutes each, you'll be able to watch the entire trail from Whitney Portal Trailhead to the Summit. All are in real (hiking) time (your time may vary) for a total of 6 hours, 11 minutes. The "first person perspective" capture takes on a very realistic virtual hike all the way up to the 14,496 foot summit.

Of course, to be realistic for a dayhike, the video sections from Whitney Portal to Trail Camp should be filmed in the dark, with headlamp-lit views of the trail immediately in front of the camera and a line of headlamp dots going up the canyon. :)

. . . as if actually being there, on the 25-switchback slog between Portal and Lone Pine Lake, isn't monotonous enough!

Nah, it's not terribly hard to do the entire up and back in the summer daylight. That's what, 15 hours for 22 miles? Of course, leaving early helps in the case that afternoon storms develop, but this IS the Sierra, not Colorado. I typically start after sunrise. One time, I started hiking 10 minutes before noon, and I got back down to the trailhead by dark.

This is the dumbest thing I have ever seen.

All theses kids nowadays need is just one more excuse not to go outside and instead stay "plugged" into something.

Man, all the posts on here and other similar forums about how overcrowded various climbs/hikes/crags are. Somebody comes up with a solution to the problem, and now people bitch about that! Geeze, can't satisfy nobody these days.
