Rae Lakes Loop in a day

Hi all, this is my first post here, very nice website. I basically signed up to see if anyone would like to try hiking Rae Lakes Loop with me on August 1st, sorry if this isn't the appropriate place to post a buddy request.

In any event, Rae Lakes Loop starts at Roads End trailhead in Kings Canyon NP. It's 44miles and goes up 7,000' of elevation before the midpoint/summit at Glen Pass. Really a beautiful hike. If interested send me a message, take care.

Question: Are you a Serial Killer?

The loop in a day, not a bad way to kill someone without leaving any evidence.

Just leave the DEET behind and there won't even be a body.

I did the loop last year in 12.5 hours and it's quite feasible to not run at all and complete it in 17-18 hours. I hope to do the loop again later this summer; hopefully sans snow it will go closer to 10 hours.

Alright alright... kill someone, not everyone!

Wow, quick replies.. :)

No serial killer here. In my experience nobody can do extreme hikes unless they are pretty psychologically fit, ie good people. Usually I hike with co-workers, but nobody I work with would consider this one...

Yes I shall bring plenty of deet, actually I'm going to do the Deet wash for all my clothes.

Other than some sunscreen, food, water, crocks, and a mosquito hoodie, I'm not bringing any equipment at all. I think I can jog the downhill if my pack is under 5#. I know it's a risk but not bringing a water filter, jetboil, or even a space blanket... this is all or nothing.

I spent 4 days over July 4 weekend in the area without a filter. I wouldn't worry too much about that decision.

Sounds like your coworkers are still more fit than mine. One of mine just flaked again (one of the few that can climb the stairs twice w/o getting winded).

might be TrailRunner blasphemy, but making it a two-day trip and bagging Mounts Cotter and Clarence King would be well worth it, IMHO.

p.s. ..and to think that i was going to brag for you, Pantilat! "geez..I know this total madman who ran it in half a day!" sweet job, btw!

Ran/walked it in just under 10 hours but it is quite doable and another hour would have made the trip a bit more enjoyable. Oh, and once was enough at that rate. And Russ, I took a single hand carry water bottle (.5l) and a light fanny pack with a few snacks - GUs, GU powder, and that was it.

Well I finished it, 18 hours (about 2.44 mph average) I left at roads end at 1:30am and hobbled back in at 7:20pm.. and I do mean hobbled.

I was able to run about 20% of the trail, and I must say I have a WHOLE new respect for the previous posters who have done it in 10 and 12:30, that's just crazy

Well today is a heal day, I took a tumble at mile 24 and had a scare when I broke a shoelace (sounds dumb but what do you do when you're halfway with no shoelace? I tied the ends together and barely was able to trail rig it to keep my shoe on)

Thanks for the support summitpost. I won't say I couldn't have done it without you, but it was good motivation to know I would have to admit success or failure on a public forum :)

HA! Yes, I'd say this was an accomplishment of your own doing! Congrats on what seems to have been a successful trip.
