Search and Rescue is also out looking for a missing hiker that's overdue since last night. Not much of a description though. About 5'4", Korean lady.

Hey Bruno, I may have passed by you today. I hiked up Register Ridge and then down the normal Sierra Hut trail. I was surprised by how little snow was up there today (but as you say, it may be changing right now). I didn't hear anything about the Korean. Here’s some photos

Oh, you probably did! We were a group of 3 guys (and my wife a little behind); one of them being a tall guy (6'5") with a very small backpack. You would probably remember him if you saw him. I was all in black.

Oh yeah, search and rescue only just started looking for the woman when we past by them somewhere between 2 and 2:30pm on the fire road.

Hi Bruno, yeah I saw you guys heading up to the western ridge. I was the guy coming down and stepped aside and said “uphill has the right of way”. The tall guy said he wanted to rest and I said “you got the right to do that too” :) :)

Regarding the missing Korean woman. It’s seems strange that if she went missing on Sat, I didn’t see any SAR activity on Sunday. I drove thru Baldy village around~12:30 and didn’t see any search activities getting started at either the ranger station or fire station. Anyhow, glad to hear they got the SAR started and I’m hoping for the best. Here’s news link:

Thanks for sharing Taco. I don't know why but it never occured to me that there might be a frozen waterfall lurking in one of those gullies. My luck has always been finding deep snow, etc. Very enticing. I may have to get up there.

Ha, I totally remember that! I was just behind him :). He's on here too (SJ).

I can't remember exactly but I think the SAR guy said it was only called in shortly before we got there.

Hey Graham,

Nice to meet you briefly yesterday as well. I was the good looking one of the group (not Bruno or the tall guy with the tiny pack) :D

Went up to Baldy and hiked the bowl on the 23rd. There is great coverage in the bowl. That storm layed it down like concrete though, the 23rd was the first day of sunshine after the storm and it felt like the snow that had been sitting in the sun for a week. Spring conditions, but very stable, and great boot-packing up the bowl. The hike in was horrendous though, post-holing to my waist at times. It's never taken me so long to get to the hut - 3 hours!!!! I was expecting it to be crowded, but I guess the road closure kept people away.

The road was "closed" on the 23rd when I was there. I sweet-talked my way in. It was pretty thrashed from all the rain they got down low. I would imagine that by now they have it looking pretty good. I heard from a friend that he went to the baldy ski resort yesterday, so I would imagine the road is open now.

Anybody know the conditions up there? Snowshoes? Crampons?
