Are you suprised at the hyperbole coming from a state who's highest peak is called 'Mount Sunflower'?

Well, to be fair...it is a reprint from the OC Register. Real Housewives perhaps? :P

I guess they don't realize that it's not unusual for moms and grandmothers to climb San Gorgonio in the spring.

Anyone been up Vivian Creek Trail lately?
Heading up this weekend any info on current conditions would be great.

We hit up San G via north side on Sunday so I can't tell you what trail conditions are but expect some wonderful wind scouring and ice up top. I doubt if any of the new snow stuck due to high winds. We had graupel all day but that shit didn't stick.

Although not quite San Gorgonio - Blair and I got about 1000' vert skiing from the top of Dollar Couloir (Charlton Peak) down to Dollar Lake this weekend. Two days of pretty neat SoCal skiing in June?! Who'da thunk?
No snow on Dollar Lake trail until quite near the split for saddle and lake. We found the couloir to be relatively sun-cupped but still skiable all the way to the freaking lake!
San G's north face and Big Draw still full of snow. It's got to be prime climbing time on consolidated stuff right now!

I went up the South Fork Trail on Sunday. Camped at Dry Lake View. There was a little bit of snow between Dollar Saddle and DLV. From DLV up the ridge on to San G is all snow. Crampons are going to be needed. Snow is slush for the first inch or two then pretty solid. It makes for a nice slide off the mound. Didn't bring an ice axe. Don't think you need one. Temps were very mild, 70's daytime, low 40's nightime. Good water at Dollar lake and Dry lake. Could melt snow at higher elevations, but it isn't the cleanest snow, more like making a tea. If it stays like this for a while, it will be snow free in a couple of weeks.
