Tioga Pass Road is open to bikes starting today. Heading up there to spin around a little tomorrow. No word on when it will open to autos, but it is open up to the pass from the Eastside.

My guess is that they only have a lane width plowed through.

The closure is just below the top of the pass.Image

Of course, everybody has to stop at Olmstead Point. Kinda like a party there with folks biking over from the east side and the west. The Marmots were out looking for snacks and licking the pavement. Yum.

The streams look to be at peak flow for this year, about a month earlier than normal.

The slopes above Olmstead are clear of snow, so the avy danger is low. The road is plowed full width, but none of the restrooms or other facilities are ready yet, and there are few places to pull off the road to park. My guess is the road opens to autos next weekend, but don't quote me on that.

Damn, some nice photos Mr. Enright! Looks like a good time up there, and some good biking. Excellent!

I've been enjoying some nice spring rides among green hills and wildflowers around home, but the thought of riding Tioga Road with those views, and free of motorized traffic, does make me a bit jealous. Thanks for posting!
