Cloudripper conditions?

Anyone been up in that area? I assume the road to South Lake is now open and passable?

Also, how much snow is left on any of the following two routes:
* West Chute
* North Slope

I'll probably pick the one that's the quickest (day hike).

Thanks!!!

The road is clear and open but I can't comment on the conditions of the routes you mentioned.

I was up at Marie Louise lakes last weekend and there is only patchy snow remaining in the western gullies. There are still snowfields on the north side towards green lakes.

Here's the West Chute on 05/11/12:

Can't imagine there's much on the North Slope. You can make a nice loop; South Lake -> West Chute -> Vagabond -> Green Lake -> South Lake. Cheers

Any idea which route is easiest on the knees btw? My friend is still recovering from a torn ACL. We should try to limit the damage :)

Take the chute, you can make it Class 2 up to Class 5. The descent is going to hurt though, might want to reconsider. I've tagged Cloudripper and Vagabond in a day and my thighs got a work-out!

Easiest on knees would really be to head up and over Vagabond from Green Lake. Take the pipe trail out of South Lake parking lot and join up with the trail at 10K. The trail is lovely and gradual up to Coyote Flat, then nice soft sand (until the summit of Vagabond, where you have to deal with some boulder hopping).

Cool, we'll rock this out even if my leg falls off.
