Whitney: Water availability Upper Boy Scout Lake

Hi,

I already asked in the Whitney forum, but couldn't get an answer to this: Does anybody know if there is liquid water at Upper Boy Scout Lake? From pictures I got the impression that the lake is still frozen, but maybe the streams are running?

Thanks,

Norbert

If you poke around on that site and look at MR trip report photos, you can see that it's starting to thaw. It looks like you can see water around the edges in a report from 5/11. There is some water flowing too from what I've seen. Not sure how much though.

Upper Boy Scout Lake was completely melted last weekend. It seemed that there is also water at Iceberg Lake, we saw blue patches at the sides from the East Buttress.

Other conditions:
- Crampons/ice axe wasn't necessary to descent MR
- East Buttress almost completely free of snow.
- Friends on East Face had some sketchy sections due to snow on ledges.

We also found a sleeping pad, see separate post.
