Mt Shasta Hike

I'm heading out to climb Mt. Shatsa from Boston in a couple of weeks. I wanted to do an acclimatization hike the day before. I was thinking that Bunny Flats to the Sierra Club Lodge and back would work for an afternoon hike. I will be staying in town the night before the climb.

Does anyone have any alternative suggestions? I will be climbing via the Northgate trailhead up the Hotlum-Bolam Ridge route.

Thank you

drive farther out to old ski bowl and hike up the bowl or up green butte, you'll get higher with less people and great views.

Green Butte or Mount Eddy are probably your best options. Both are great and easily accessible.

If you've got the time (and a car), Mt. Lassen is a good warm up for Shasta. Short hike, but gets you to 10,000ft.

If headed to Lassen, check first- the PS have been closing the mountain for trail work. However, there are some other, slightly lower peaks nearby that would work for acclimatiziing, e.g. Brokeoff Mountain.

Wanted to thank everyone for the advice. Went up to the Ski bowl last week and hiked around for a few hours. Had no trouble acclimatizing for the summit over the weekend.

Would have liked to check out some of the other mountains mentioned but time constraints didn't make them possible.

Thank you!
