Any beta shots? Looking at heading up the weekend of the 23rd, curious about the couloirs.

Can't help with exact conditions, but the weather has been unstable up there for several days now. 120 was closed for a portion of that. My uneducated guess is that several inches of fresh snow fell and melted out fast from the lower elevations, but above 10,000 or so they may persist. Keep in mind that 4" of snow on an open slope can translate into more than 1' in a couloir if wind blown, so your best bet is to go up there and evaluate the avalanche conditions first hand. If you aren't sure how to do that, the rest is up to your risk appetite. This report may also be of some help: http://www.sierramtnguides.com/blog/con ... ir-report/

My best guess is that you won't find anything super consolidated or iced up in the couloirs. Probably softer snow on its way to settling, with a small possibility of some persistent small slabs. But that's 100% speculation. See if you can talk to anyone who's been to similar elevation so you can decide for/against snowshoes.
