Hi,

Anyone been up to Telescope Peak recently? More than anything curious what condition the road to Mahogany Flat is in? Trail conditions would be helfpul as well.

Thank you!

Death Valley NP suffered heavy flood damage last week; almost all roads off the main highway through the park are closed now. The road from Panimint Valley to Wildrose has been "closed" fro 2 years as Inyo County lacks the funds to repair it from summer storms 2 summers ago. It was possible, prior to these recent storms, to get through with careful driving (but don't get caught). I suspect it is now destroyed. Call the visitor center for the latest info before you visit.

I called today. To my surprise, no restrictions to Mahony Flat other than a high clearance vehicle required?! No real details on how rough the road is though.

Here's the Death Valley Morning Report from yesterday Oct 22. Looks like the lower part of Wildrose Canyon road is closed ( so you can't access the upper part of the road?!?!?).

That is really strange?!? I specifically asked her if she was sure it was open since it had been closed for a while. Nope, all good?!?! I'm going to guess the report is right and she's wrong. Going to hit up a different peak to be safe; way too long of a drive to not make it to the TH!

Lower Wildrose has been closed for something like a year and a half now, but you can still get to the campground, charcoal kilns and upper canyon via the paved Emigrant Canyon Road (i.e. from the Stovepipe Wells side rather than the Panamint Valley side).

https://www.facebook.com/DeathValleyRoadConditions has been getting pretty frequent updates lately, and the map in their profile banner should help clarify the Wildrose road situation.

Hiked it yesterday - about 4-6 inches of snow on the trail, but passable just fine in hiking boots. Snow was melting fast. We didn't have 4WD and could only drive up to Thorndike (about 1 mi short of Mahogany Flat), but with a good 4x4 we could have driven to the Mahogany Flat TH.
