It sounds like most incidents involved woefully unprepared persons for the conditions. In five days, 2 deaths and 12 rescues in the Mt. Baldy area. The area is now closed to access. Too bad all the way around.

On Saturday I saw two persons hiking in shorts and tennis shoes just below Outpost Camp on Mt Whitney. Yes it was warm but... The next day after crossing the snowy surface of Mirror Lake and trying to attempt a "wrong" slope somehow decided to turn back.
