Looks like the Sierras
are getting ready to see an apocalyptic snow event. The moisture in that storm is massive.

Gonna be warm tho.

Yosemite just warned that they might close the park if they get flooding due to the expected rainfall/snowmelt this weekend.


Couple feet in the past 24 hours up here in Tahoe:

In Oakhurst right now, at the southern rim of Yosemite, and it's raining like crazy. Snow level appears to be around 7-8000 feet. Fingers crossed on getting up towards Badger Pass and Glacier Point by Friday via x-country skis. There was patchy snow up till round Fish Camp two days ago, but it's been raining pretty solid since then... Will report later in the week.

Yosemite is going to get a metric asston of rain this weekend

Two feet here in Aspendell (8450') in the last 30 hours. Local center suggests avi danger is high for the area.

Hearing rumors that Yosemite will be closing to visitors Friday at 5pm and will be hard closing all park entrances roads on Saturday at 5pm

Fedak may be correct... Just noticed a 'new' pop-up emergency statement on Yosemite's website stating they are preparing for a possible flood of the valley. Today looks bright and clear in Oakhurst. Yesterday in the valley the Merced looked great, and the I've never seen so many waterfalls coming off the cliffs. More rain/snow in the forecast for tonight....

Yeah... The ranger told us on the way into the park today. Unfortunately, they also prematurely closed Glacier Point Road - there had been no significant weather since yesterday when it was open - and so our hopes of cutting some turns up past Badger Pass were done. We did attempt to find a "winter trail" from Chinquapin Creek that was noted on the "Yosemite Winter Trails Map," but were unsuccessful. Given all the fallen trees and lack of snow over the past couple of years, I wonder if that trail even still exists.

Ended up x-country skiing near Fish Camp, which turned out pretty ok, despite the hoards of people at the snow play area just beyond the Yosemite boundary. (We went elsewhere).

That being said, the high country (8000ft.+) looks to be well coated in white pow... Curious to see what this storm brings, along with the remainder of winter.

Mammoth looks freakin' epic right now with reported storm totals nearing 7+ feet in the past two days at the summit...

Mammoth has been getting hammered all week. Today was a heavy wet continuous dump at Canyon Lodge. Even snowed a few inches in Bishop. The 395 between Bishop and Mammoth is completely covered, 4WD or chains is necessary.

^^^ I like the wet stuff better than the dry stuff --- easier to make snowballs ...

Today is a massive slushfest.
