There is a lot of bullshit in this article.

Rescue personnel used Stevens' Verizon phone records to get her approximate location, which showed she was near the Mud Creek Glacier near Red Banks. They later located her at the the 8,500-feet level near the Clear Creek Trail Head.
Through Verizon phone records, rescuers on Thursday were able to peg her location near Mud Creek Glacier near the Red Banks area.

Well Mud Creek glacier is no where near the Red Banks, as anyone who has been to both would know. Also it is very unlikely she traversed over all the rock bands to get from one to the other... or crossed over Mud Creek Canyon from there to get to Clear Creek. Apparently she lost the (currently extremely obvious) trail on Misery Hill or the summit plateau and started descending Clear Creek... called for help at night... then continued out to the springs. Verizon's triangulation must not be that accurate... if she had somehow made it to Mud Creek Glacier (which she wouldn't have) then she'd have gone down Ski Bowl or to Squaw Meadows. I have seen several people get confused and start towards the wrong route down... though it was always earlier in the season when there is not a extremely obvious melted out trail or path through the snow like there is now. And usually people on Clear Creek that head towards Avalanche Gulch.

She was last seen at the Clear Creek trailhead at the 8,500-foot level, and it appeared she was not dressed for inclement weather or cold temperatures, according to Lopey.

Well that make sense... because there probably was not inclement weather or cold temperatures at 8500 feet. Probably hot as fuck!

Also I don't know why they go on and on about not knowing if she had a permit or not. If you do not know then it really isn't relevant at all... only worth mentioning if it turns out she didn't have one. Rescue is still free though lol.

Not a very good article but I bet it sounds fine to the average subscriber in Redding! :P

You can't even work out a proper chronology from the article.

I am pretty sure she called for help at 9:46 Wednesday night and spent two nights on the mountain before being rescued Friday evening at 7:43, though that's not what the article says.

. . . :P

And you are absolutely right! Simply because you know Mt Shasta very well after climbing this mountain over 27 routes, established and not, all glaciers and ridges. You are a good mountaineer as the guy who found her. What were the odds for one person versus "Multiple law enforcement agencies and assets - Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue teams, U.S. Forest Service rangers, California Highway Patrol helicopters, California Army National Guard airplanes, emergency personnel - assisted in finding Stevens." :?: source

The irony is he offered his help (assistance) while making the 991 call but was ignored! But then when he found out that the official Search & Rescue Enterprise, a big show with many helicopters flying around in the blue sky (no offense), after a whole day and a few hours of the second day of the search failed, he got very upset and rushed on his own to help this girl on his personal Search & Rescue mission. He knew the odds for her survival were rapidly diminishing!

He knew regardless how many troupes are on the ground and number of aircraft flying in the air, the success is never guaranteed. Why? Simply he experienced this in the past on another nearby mountain when he found his, unfortunately already dead, friend and ever best climbing partner after two days of starting his personal Search & Rescue mission while the official huge S&R team was unsuccessful for two weeks.

So you had to bring her down from Helen Lake? She seems pretty traumatized... if this is the worst experience of her life then she has had a very good life!

So the missing climbed Shasta due to a vision to pray for world peace... this explains a lot... so it was just an IQ thing. And I don't think hiking down Clear Creek successfully is really a miracle... even if it was while lost.

And are you the guy who found the missing girl as well?

It is amazing what some people do. I have actually encountered people on the summit in the middle of the night while camped up there who started to decend the opposite side they ascended from because they didn't trust their GPS and it just felt right to go the other way.

This girl was the hiking partner of the missing one. The video was shot at Bunny Flat a couple of days after the whole incident. I’ll systematically add new material and explain what really happened. They were both traumatized because this was way above their skills, expectations and imagination. Yes I explained them how we call such people and why and gave them, hopefully, enough lecture they would not do that again. In another video such a message would be included for others to avoid such in “a good cause” attempts.

The real question is, however, why the hell the missing girl was not found the first day of the search. All f… day and another day!!!!!!! Please don't try to explain because I'm still upset.

I suppose if you believe you can achieve world peace simply by praying for it, you can also assume you will be rescued off a mountain if you pray hard enough.

She was rescued due to a 911 call and two day search by people who can't find individuals will on a slope with no trees... and the praying did nothing!

A few facts and the timeline:

After starting the summit attempt she stayed on the mountain two nights and three days.

Night One:
There were two 911 calls to initiate the rescue, one from the lost hiker (she had a phone and reception) and one from the climber who later found her (once he got to the highway and got reception).

Day Three:
After the same climber who made the initial call found her on the rocks, he made a second 911 call so the helicopter could come and get her to “safety”.

You will get the whole and true story in one form or another sooner or later.
