Mini-trip report for Lassen

On June 3, I climbed Lassen Peak and thought I'd post a couple of photos in case anyone is wondering about conditions.

The trail is about 50 percent dirt and 50 percent snow. Of course, if you prefer snow, you could ascend the slopes that skiers and snowboarders are using to descend and avoid more of the dirt.

About 60 degrees when I started at 9 a.m. Perfect weather -- didn't need anything more than a long-sleeve shirt with good SPF.

I carried crampons and an ice ax but didn't use them. I did use hiking poles and wore good boots. However, I saw many people ascending in sneakers. Glad I wasn't one of them. :)

That's about it -- 2 hours up, about 1:40 down. Great time of the year for Lassen!

Nice pics but why not glissade down that slope on the right? The 10 minute return trip option is the best thing about Lassen this time of year!

I didn't bring suitable pants for a glissade.

I go to Goodwill and get an old swimsuit for about $3. Then put that over anything and you can glissade without wearing out your pants.

If you see someone headed from the top of Shasta in black shorts with neon green tiger print on the sides... that's me!
