I'm heading to the Blue Ridge next week and plan to hit it at Asheville. I had heard that I-40 is closed in spots due to rock slides - between Knoxville and Asheville. Any info would be helpful. I tried doing some google searches but didn't find any info.

Thanks,
Mark

I-40 between Knoxville and Asheville finally opened up a couple weeks ago, although there still may be one lane closed for additional slide remediation work. I think US 129 between Fontana, NC and Knoxville (aka Tail of the Dragon) still has nightly closures due to a slide.

Thanks for the feedback. This is good news as it will definitely make getting to the Parkway a lot simpler!!!

Check on Parkway closures, too! There are a number of them due to the clearing of trees and such from the rough snowfall this past winter.

Hadn't even considered that so thanks Bob for the heads up. We may be on the Parkway quite a bit considering we're camping at Linville Falls.

You'll need to check on Parkway closures for sure, then. Go to the National Park website and just find the specific site for the Blue Ridge Parkway. They have a section detailing closures.

I know the BRP is still closed between the Arboretum (NC 191) and Mt Pisgah. It's been closed since last fall...don't know what the expected open date is.
