For all you slide climbers--A new slide came down on the south ridge of Dix Mountain (Adirondacks) between the Beckhorn and Hough. Based on recent photos, it apparently happened in late June or early/mid July. From toe to top, it's about 3,000 ground feet up about 950 vertical feet of elevation gain. Full report, pics and video from my climb on 8/10/13 is located at:

This looks great, I have to find some time to make it up there! Was planning a trip to Gothics, maybe I can make it a double destination trip.

Do slides occur every so often in the 'Dacks?

Yes. A heavy rain, and the very steep vegetated slopes cut loose. The underlying anorthosite has very little texture to hold the soil and plant matter.
