Hoping someone can point us to some areas in/around the greater Rochester area that has some fairly steep hills/stairs sufficient for training for a climb? Also looking for some area trails good for after work and and weekend hiking? Thank you in advance! Graham

The Adirondacks!!!! Mt. Marcy and alqouin peak are awesome. Only did marcy so far. Wanna go back. I think whiteface is good too. The trail to the top, not driving up.

If you want something closer for after work, it's tough -- Rochester is pretty flat. There are some decent hills down around the Canadaigua area (Bristol), maybe 2,000 in elevation. Otherwise, it's the ADK's.

I thought you gave up climbing to take up frisbee golf?

Not too far away are Mendon Ponds, which have several glacial features (eskers, kames) appropriate for XC skiing.

Letchworth Sate Park is about 35 miles away, and has some trails.

Some of the hills around the finger lakes are quite steep and high, and could give a real XC workout.

I did, but then I took a frisbee in the forehead and decided it was too dangerous. Now I'm back to freezing to death in the White's with my wise-ass climbing partner.

Kman, Santa was good to me this year. My stocking revealed half a dozen SMC rap rings, an OR winter balaclava, lightweight coffee drip, and MH compressor pants. Just need the Phantom bag and I should be all set......maybe.

Nice haul -- Cindy makes a good Santa. I'll send you a PM about the Phantom.
