Customer Service 101

So on a recent climb my Montrail CTC's blew out along the seam on the inside behind the big toe. I called Montrail and they gave me a runaround...I had to prove I had bought them within the last year (I only wore the shoes 6 days), then I could get credit for something else. Fortunately I could prove that I bought them thanks to Backcountry.com.
Then I just decided to return them to Backcountry. And they exchanged them no problem. So while Montrail was just OK, they didn't do anything to make me a fan. Backcountry on the other hand now has a loyal customer. Oh yeah, I originally bought them via Steep and Cheap at a low price and Backcountry still replaced them.

Ya gotta love a company the routinely plays Grateful Dead on their "on-hold" music.

Not to be confused with http://www.backcountrygear.com who I had a bad experience with, although it was a few years back.

Intuition Sports (liners) have been great to work with. Customer service via phone and email has been immediate and they do everything they can to get you the right liner and size.

This is the kind of feedback I'd love to get in the page that I created a while back for online gear retailers.

I spent a fair amount of time creating the list for my own use. I hoped it would be a valuable resource to other SPers as well but it is not viewed very often. Feedback from other members about their experience with merchants would certainly add to the value of the list...

Last spring I destroyed one of my BD hiking poles by sliding down a snow slope and in a reflex trying to to arrest my slide with my hiking pole. I thrusted it straight down in a meter of snow and my forward movement caused it to snap on the joint of the lower and middle segment.

So I brought it back for repair...it took a couple of months but last week I got a complete replacement of the lower two segments for free!

Backcountry.com has stellar customer service, replaced my Evolv approach shoes without even a question as to their failure...the whole damn tongue pulled out.

Edit: I have never had a bad purchasing/return experience with them.

Another +1 for Backcountry.com

I've made a few purchases from BC.com and I've been very satisfied with the help and selection. But I haven't had the need to return anything to them yet.
