I love the warmth of the TAIGA booties

The only thing I would do to improve them is add a light grippy waterproof sole to them.

That said, on cold winter expeditions, I bring a pair of overboots to wear over them outdoors and once the overboots are off, I can wear them even in my sleeping bag if I need to.

I like the TNF booties for base camps. The larger rubber sole means they can be worn almost everywhere.

I would also suggest the MEC booties. My wife has had a pair of their hut booties for several years and they have stood up well on several trips to Aconcagua, Denali and Mt. Washington.

I like these:

http://www.rei.com/product/772100

I made an outer bootie of ripstop and cordura (really simple and easy to make) and waterproofed the crap out of them to wear over the booties to make them a lot more durable, a lot more waterproof. I coupled them with expedition weight merino socks that I used only as camp socks which meant they stayed stashed away where they would always be dry.

After snowshoeing and climbing all day it was heaven to get out of boots and put on the dry thick socks and then the down booties. Walk around camp and cook and do whatever and when it's time to get in the tent, just remove the over booties and you can keep the booties on inside the tent without any bringing in any snow or dirt.

yeah...the MEC ones are really nice...and are priced pretty well.

I can also vouch for the durability of Tiaga, which I currently use.

I have the Ff ones and like the fact the the inner comes out of the outer so they can be used either in a boot or bag without the stiffer soles attached. Plus they have a removable thermo sole in the outer layer. However, to buy them you will have to support there high and mighty arrogance.

I've been scouring the internet for a pair of down booties to use at camp during winter camping adventures. From looking at the Google, it would seem that Sierra Designs has the market entirely cornered! Theirs are about all anybody is selling. With some further digging, I also found offerings from Feathered Friends (look alright), Nunatak (quite expensive), and North Face (looks like a lot of weight is tied up in that rubber sole). None of these really seem to hit the spot though, hopefully there are some more options out there.

Can any of you recommend some good winter camping down booties?

Thanks!

what's wrong with the Sierra Design booties?
