hi everyone

i found the Mountain Hardware Sub Zero SL jacket on clearance at my local store for $160 and I was thinking of picking it up for aconcagua later this year. just wondering what people's experiences have been with jackets vs parkas on cold mountains. aconcagua is likely as high as i'll ever go, but i would consider (and would like gear capable of handling) more remote but lower peaks such as denali/vinson or some of the 6000m peaks in the himalayas.

should i spend the little extra to get the parka? thoughts?

thanks
ben

Hi, If it has a Hood its good enough IMHO. I have the Sub Zero jacket, not the SL and its plenty warm but doesnt have a hood so I use it mostly for camp and urban/resort use.

I prefer a longer parka for more coverage lower down my hips. I have a OR Superplume Parka for that. Its a very warm jacket. Warm enough for anything up to 6-7000M.
