Hi, I am looking to buy a good duffle bag and I have done some research and came up with these three: Marmot Long Hauler Duffle bag (110L), Mountain Hardwear Expedition Duffle (130L) and Patagonia Black Hole Duffle (120L). I am looking for a duffle bag that will also be somewhat water proof. Does anyone know if the MH and Marmot duffle are water proof?? Does anyone have experience with one of these three?? Any recommendations?

I have and highly recommend a Fish Behomoth Bag: http://www.fishproducts.com/catalog/productlinefs.html. These are popular among Alaska Range climbers. The material is totally waterproof and the zipper hood is effective at keeping snow and water out of the duffle, although it would not keep water out if completely immersed.

i have a patagonia black hole and find it to be pretty sweet. the fabric is water proof, but the zipper is not. therefore it would be fine in the rain, but not submerged.
i can't compare to the others as i haven't used them, but i find the padded bottom, shoulder straps and lash points on the patagonia to be nice touches.
just so you know mine hasn't been on any crazy expeditions or anything, just general luggage use and roof rack duty.

if you need complete waterproof bags i would look at drybags from companies like seal line

Thanks for the replies. I am looking for a bag that will keep my stuff dry in the rain and in the snow, it needs to be durable enough for climbing and sailing trips.

It also comes in other sizes. I've left mine outside my tent on many a snowy or rainy night without any problems.

Not sure on the best but when you do decide whatever you do don't use it to transport gear through airports because they will teach it a lesson and transform it to kind of waterproof. Might be a nobrainer but my buddy had it happen to him.
