What kind of watch do you wear when hiking, backpacking, climbing, etc?

Or what do you wear when you're sitting at your desk thinking about the above?

Bonus points for pics.

Almost certainly the best-selling watch of all time (still going strong with estimates around 3 million a year). Simple, legible, utterly reliable in any weather.

Hint: it's a Casio, and wearing one has been used by the US as grounds for labeling you a terrorist.

Timex Expedition. Cheap, indestructible (so far) and works fine in cold temps (field tested to about -20 F). The other day I had most of my lower arm jammed in a crack and I could hear the watch grinding against the rock, but I didn't care because I was gripped. I figured that would probably be the end of it, but it's still going strong. It doesn't do any special tricks, but that doesn't matter to me.

The only time I put on a nicer watch is if I'm getting all dressed up for some reason.

For hiking, backpacking and scrambling I like my casio pathfinder, I agree with Nartreb's post, reasonably priced, simple to use, durable and reliable. I had a Suunto but was not satisfied. Suunto's are like the Mercedes or BMW's of watches, whereas Casio's are more on the order of a Toyota or Honda. But it's partly a trick question becuase you really shouldn't wear a wrist watch while doing any technical climbing. I take off my watch and wedding ring when I have to engage my hands/arms with the rock.

None I think they are a pain to get to under gloves. I am sure for rock climbing it would be different. I keep a Highgear clip on Altimeter/watch on my shoulder harness of backpack.

I don't wear watches! I use my camera to tell time...however it's always some number of hours off since I cross time zones regularly

I am to this day unimpressed with Suunto watches. Their bands, battery life and alarms. Still a solar powered Casio fan. Never have to wonder if your watch will fail halfway through your trip.

+1. Cheap, reliable, they tell time, and will wake you up for that alpine start.

While working either my Tag Aquasport racer or Bulova mechanical. Trail I wear my beat up suunto vector which is no longer accurate and the screen is scratched all to hell but it tells time lol

I don't wear one. When I'm not in the backcountry, I have a phone with me. In the backcountry, I don't care what time it is.

Same a mconnell and Matt Lemke... I don't wear one. And usually don't have a phone in the backcountry either as there is seldom reception.

I use the camera if I really need to know the time. And if I really need an alarm I use a cheap casio. I took the wrist strap off even as I don't wear it at all and solely use it for the alarm function. Weighs only 0.4 ounces.

What if you have to get up at two in the morning to climb a tall mountain?
