I have Spantiks but thinking they may be overkill?

Does anyone think it would be worth picking up a pair of Nepal Evo's or should I just make do?

I haven't been to Ecuador, but I can say that for Mexico, Spatniks are overkill. At least for the conditions we saw.

I wore La Sportiva Glaciers. My daughter wore some light Asolo boots up Itza, then wore plastics on Pico de Orizaba. We both had warm feet. But we also moved fast and had nice weather on hard snow…...

Personally, I think they would be overkill for Ecuador as well, unless you are doing something really technical where you would be standing around a lot.

I'd take the Nepal Evos but have you considered the new Batura?

Batura 2.0 is between Nepal Evo and Spantik and good up to 6,500 meters as long as you remain active. My size 46 Baturas weigh 2.3lbs/boot while my 47 Spantiks 2.9lbs/boot (with palau inner boots) and are overkill imo. I use thin wool socks because I want the tightest fit possible without compromising circulation but I assume you could make them warmer by going up a half/full size and using a thicker sock/liner combo. They also have a much smaller profile than doubles and even Evos. If you want boots that can last years Nepal Evos are the ones to get but imo Baturas hit the sweet spot.

i dont know about Ecuador but i climbed Orizaba with Scarpa Charmoz and it was fine. I climbed izta with hiking boots

Seems like I can probably leave my Spantiks behind then.

I will check out the Baturas, ive never really had a problem with cold feet before (my hands are another story).

If you have cold hands and are climbing volcanoes down mitts are perfect. Don't get the big Himalayan ones, I use mid weight and try them on with lightweight inner gloves. That way you have the perfect combo, regulating warmth, and a light 5 finger glove for the way down.

Seems as this trip is now off since it looks like I am going to do Aconcagua instead!

Looking forward to that, may hit up one of these countries prior as a warm up.
