Hey,
How safe it is do you think to climb Elbrus in august wearing my Hiking boots ( The North Face Dhaulagiri Gore-Tex® ) and not classic mountaineering boots?
The guide i talked with said it should be fine if i wear good warm mountaineering socks ( 2 layers of them ).

Thanks ,
Yonatan

It is wise to choose carefully, and not to skimp on quality. This list here http://www.outdoorgearup.com/best-winter-hiking-boots/ can serve as starting points of reference for you. Take this list to your local outdoor specialty shop. I'm doing the same later this year and will be using my Salomon Snowtrip boots. They're lightweight, waterproof and crampon compatible.
