Stuffing the tent is recommended. If you think about the abuse the tent is designed to take with the elements, stuffing it for a 1-15 day trip isn’t going to do any damage to the tent, if it does you have a piece of crap.

The whole object of stuffing versus rolling is that you won’t create "wear" patterns in the fabric.

Stuffing versus Rolling -

I was also recommended by others to stuff (it) and asked a former tent designer (yes, they exist) and he stated it was better to roll as stuffing will actually do more damage to the fabric/coating. And he should know. The exception being those slippery single wall tents.

As far as taking them down in the rain, it seems like no matter what I do the inside gets wet from being rolled, but I *think* the separate rolling method keeps more of the rain in the fly. But, not having to work, I can usually wait for good weather .

I think everybody should just STUFF IT !!!

When I am using the tent and have it in my bag, I stuff it in my backpack- without the stuff sack, usually do not bring the stuff sack along. This makes the backpack easier to pack, I can normally get more in there without the fixed cylindrical shape of tent.

When I store them, I roll them up and put them in the stuff sacks. The creases in pretty much the same place every time.

Have done this for many years and neither has ever caused the slightest issue.

I find that my tents fit better when I roll the poles and fly in one roll with tent. When I've tried packing them in separate pieces the multiple odd shapes don't all go in the stuff bag. I don't think I could fold creases in the same places every time even if I tried.

I use the poles to gage the width of the roll and they make a good core to compress everything else around. It works every time for me. I do put the foot-print in separate and last since it's often still moist or wet.

Big Agnes tents fit back in the bags without heroic intervention. You can roll them sloppily, with the poles and stakes and fly inside, and they still fit. The cheaper the tent, the tighter the bag.
