Howdy folks,
There's a new film out there The Search for Freedom that's pretty inspiring for outdoor athletes. Worth a watch for sure, if only for the scenery and action sequences..

The film might be especially interesting for those into Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's ideas about Flow.

Finding Flow: The Psychology of Engagement with Everyday Life

Yikes!, since I'm mentioning books, here's a study in contrasts that has implications for the individual and living as well.

Ok, back to SP's regulary scheduled programming...

DG,
The movie is fundamentally about the psychological/emotional states of outdoor/adventure athletes; what drives them, what they are fundamentally pursuing.
Green Room, Bone Games, Flow, Summit Fever, The Zone, Wall Drug, Rat Feeding, Drug Running, whatever you wanna call it. The director calls it "Freedom" but I think he's really talking about is what M. Csikszentmihalyi calls Flow. I think there's a point where you go do this stuff enough and you begin to reflect on the why of why. This movie is helpful because if you are the kind of person that values or chases this state, at the very least, you realize you are not alone in this world.
Ok, the motocross jumping in Las Vegas wasn't really an outdoor sequence, but the look on the guy's face is something we all can relate too. :)
HTH,
Go get some.
