The Bighorns have been getting pounded around 10.5k+ over the last 2 weeks. Peaks over 12k have seen 3-4ft+ with more currently coming down. It's snowing now at 5k where I live.

I'm climbing it from Wilderness Basin this summer, as well as the Gargoyle. When were you thinking of heading up?

Yeah, the pattern is definitely in place. I live in high desert and it's raining so much I can barely get out to now the grass. Going to be an interesting summer mountain season for sure.

How are things looking now that it is June? Headed to the Winds July 11. The Snotel gauges look like things have pretty much melted out, but they are all below 10K feet. Certainly don't mind some snow cover as opposed to scree, but hoping to avoid postholing. Thanks.

Depends on where in the Winds you are going. You should be good by 2nd week of July in most areas depending on temps/aspect. Obviously a south facing aspect at 1pm is going to be more prone to slow snow travel as opposed to a north facing.

And these guys. If you're lucky and/or persistent, you can get ahold of a person in the know, like a backcountry ranger. If they're not in, and they're probably not, find out when they will be in and call back.

Received the following report from Josh at the Great Outdoor Shop in Pinedale: Conditions on Gannett are looking pretty good. We had an employee hike into Titcomb Basin this week and his report was that there is no snow left between the trailhead and Island Lake. Beyond Island Lake there is still snow. We have had two weeks straight of really warm summer temperatures and it’s making short work of the remaining snow in the Winds. In two weeks you should be able to reach upper Titcomb Basin snow free and have consolidated snow the rest of the way up Bonnie Pass and Gannett Peak….absolutely ideal conditions.
