Hi all,

I'm heading up Mt. Borah on June 28th and I was wondering if anyone has been up there recently and knows how much snow/ice there is right now. I was planning on going up the Southwest (Chicken-Out) Ridge route.

Thanks and happy travels!

Was there over the weekend. Snowfree until just before the notch downclimb. Hard ice under snow forces you off the normal route in spots. Just after the snowbridge everyone is climbing up the rock and then traversing left back to the normal route to avoid some steep snow. It's loose but can be done. Then before the summit pinnacle on the traverse you'll need to climb up loose scree to the south ridge. The normal trail is under ice right now. Everyone is going the ridge but there are a few spots of short iciness. Take crampons and axe (although some were summitting without them, they were all saying they wished they had them). We got to 12,450 and my partner didn't like the rock so we turned back. Probably 8 others summitted via the ridge on Saturday.
