Peroneal Tendonitis

I have peroneal tendonitis in my left foot. The pain is at the base of the fifth metatarsal which basically is about midway under the foot towards the outside. This has plagued me for years. One podiatrist talked me into a Topaz surgery in 2011. It lasted about a year and a half before the same symptoms returned. This is an everyday nuisance that just won't go away. It is very site specific in that I can pinpoint with my finger the exact location of the injury. My new Dr tells me that he thinks I can avoid surgery and reduce the pain through PT. No luck yet. I have modified my orthotics to keep pressure off the trigger spot with limited results.

Does anyone have a similar affliction ? I welcome any possible advice on mitigating this constant aggravation.

I want to try Mt Rainier next July, however, this injury has me very worried.
