Hey, I have a question. I don't get to visit with these interesting creatures often (1 year, maybe). But when I do see one at some farm or zoo, they often look slightly suspicious and shy. Is that an unfair? How do you get one to warm up to you?

I'm sure I'll run into you and Aahz and the squishter at some point this summer. Seems like sometimes I can't swing a dead cat in Tuolumne or the Valley without meeting someone I know (or who has seen my llama posts on SP or the taco) 8)

Last July 4th I was climbing up in the Meadows and at one of the belays was a party of 3. Turns out they were all folks I'd chatted with on supertopo (had met only one in person before). It was hilarious.

If anyone sees the Llama Mobile this summer, don't be afraid to say hello -

Play nice kids, heading up to go climbing for a few days :D

I'm telling PETA, and if that doesn't terrify you, I'll tell my daughter.

Ok. So, I guess I asked for that -

In all seriousness, I was wondering what llamas were like. Are they stubborn? smart? smarter than a horse? do they like sugar cubes? a scratch behind the ears? do they really spit?

A friend has 3 llamas. I'd do a quick characterization: stubborn.

They do pretty much whatever they want to do, and if they could get away with it, they'd do
more.

"You don't pull on Superman's cape,
You don't spit into the wind.
You don't pull the mask off of old Lone Ranger,
And you don't mess around with - anything with four legs!"
