Stereotypes?

So they were handing around articles at work about productivity etc, and one of them was about the lack or breakdown of give-and-take conversations in the workplace. At the end of the article they button-holed several categories of people the article refers to as conversation "saboteurs" and how/why they ruin the dynamics of a conversation.

One of those categories they referred to as "Mountain Climber":

Mountain Climbers are the individuals who have inhaled the idea that their experiences are more important and more instructive than anyone else's experiences and ideas. More than likely they are driven by their insecurities that someone else may have had an experience more vibrant than their own.

Are we that transparent?

At this time I guess I would call myself more of an alpine hiker so I'm completely secure with the fact that I'm not an insecure mountain climber. But I am striving to become less secure with myself as to get up higher mountains.

Stupidity and ignorance are much more potent productivity killers.

What experiences are more vibrant than climbing a freaking mountain?

"Oh you climbed a 14,000-ft peak? Wow, impressive. Reminds me the time I bowled a 270..."

Some conversations need to be sabotaged.

I suppose then the proper response would be that our experiences are that much more important and instructive?

I climbed a 14,000-ft peak AND bowled a 270, but NOT at the same time.

All that makes me is ... nervous.

see, in reality its not worth talking about unless you did climb a 14Kft mountain AND bowled 270 at the same time. But as Taco pointed out,.... ok, we won't go there......

Reminds me of my phrase: "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me again, shame on you again! I knew I should have not trusted you". The original phrase leaves no room for second chances.

Castlereagh,

I suggest that your question be referred to The Chief and that his written response be provided to the numbnuts in your office who circulated the productivity article. :D :D

This entire forum is severely entertaining!!!

*as far as the article goes, Im sure that the geek-squad/ Harvard or MIT grad/ know-it-all who wrote it has absolutely NO idea what kind of skill, and hard work goes in to mountain climbing. Maybe he should read "Eiger Dreams," "Climb," "Addicted to Danger," "Seven Summits" or any book with a mountaineering flavor.

Or, maybe he should watch "Cliffhanger ...?" Buttered popcorn ONLY has 1500 calories.
