Dayum, that's alot. Perhaps i didnt know the depth and scope of Summit Posts drawing power when I joined up. How long has SP been around, who/when/where did it start?

The first mountain added (id 1) <a href="http://www.summitpost.org/show/mountain_link.pl/mountain_id/1">Baboquivari Peak</a> The dates on the photos indicate that the peak was added on 9 March 2001.

You can go way back into the threads on the General and Site Feedback boards for a lot of history and interesting reading.

Perhaps one of the really "old timers" will write a history of the site someday.

And I once thought being member #1798 was a high number. Am I one of the "old timers?"

91.8% of SPers are younger than you klenke.

Fred and I joined about the same time and 89% of SPers are younger than us.

SP seemed well established with a large community of active posters when I joined in July 2002.

I'm not sure I'm following you concerning your percentages.
The last person registered (today) was bnmtthws at #22603. I'm #1798. So there is no way 92% of SPers are "younger" than me. (I am speaking in terms of time on this site, not our actual ages, which counts for nothing toward sp wisdom.)

Say, how do I change my sex to "Maybe Later"?

Maybe my math is screwy but I get:

1798/22603 = .0795 => 7.95% are older (or registered before you)
1-(1798/22603) = .9205 => 92.05% are younger (or registered after you)

Did a little research to find out who are the real "old timers." I looked at all members in registation order and here are some of the names that jumped out at me:

A lot of us joined about the same time as I did because at that time folks could only access the site if they had a membership.

Wow, interesting stats, I never really paid attention to the current number of members.

I remember how cool I thought the site was when I found it. It was only a few months old. I always thought it had the potential to grow into what it know is.

There were only a few of CO's 14ers on the site at the time. I actually came across it while researching a trip on Rainier.

Andy, you're right. I totally screwed up interpretting what you were saying. That is, I read what you said backwards. I agree with you 100%. Actually, maybe only 91.8%.

Andy - I really wish you would cut that list off sooner. I get referred to enough as an "old timer" without getting that label here as well!

OK, here's a little history. I received the following e-mail message supposedly on March 31, 2001, but I apparently joined on the 30th. Not sure how that can be explained because the message was my introduction to SP. Did any of you other guys receive this message or one like it? I didn't recognize any of the other recipients' e-mail addresses to be current members of SP.

At first I posted a few photos and lurked. Then I realized that someone would beat me to some of my favorite mountains if I didn't act, so I took the leap and put up some peaks that I had some decent photos of. The rest is history. It's really been fun watching this thing take off and fly. We're almost 4 years old, and growing fast!

I'm only User 17946, which makes me about ten times younger (actually 9.9822 times) than you, Paul. My histronics were different: searched for Campanile Basso, found Tony Simpkins' page (that was then) and was hooked. Struggled a bit but then gave in to the new addiction. I haven't been playing computer games since....
