Contacts in Morocco

Tried to post a new topic in Africa, but there is no such thing. At least, new topic. I'm pretty sure Africa is still there...

I'm looking for mountaineering contacts in Morocco. I've contacted the CAF and gotten no response. Emailed guides in Casablanca and Marrakech, and gotten no response. I have a significant project I'm working on and would appreciate any and all references to mountaineers in the High Atlas.

Please email at martha@marthaperantoni.com

Thanks!
Martha

Have you tried asking over on UKClimbing.com? A lot of people there go to or have been to Morocco. Ask on the Expeditions forum.

I went up Toubkal in deep snow in March 1997, but I'm sure things have changed a bit since then. It used to get ridiculously crowded with Euro ski-tourers in late winter / spring. Looks a good place for long ridgeline scrambles, though not in summer!

I seem to remember a Brit named Hamish Brown did a guide years ago. Google?

In the early 1990s to early 2000s a group of older Brit climbers did a lot of new routes there, long rock routes in the Todra Gorge and other places. I think a guide came out several years ago, but for a long time people kept it to themselves, so they could grab all the great lines. It's meant to be some of the best multi-pitch trad in the world. Joe Brown, Chris Bonington and others were all in the group, though they stopped a few years ago.

Went up Toubkal last year. Just PM me about specific questions. Didn't use any operator... .
