Hey, where did all the eyeballs go?

I honestly have never been a heavy user of this site, only checking in occasionally. But it seems that when I first started on this site 10 years ago, and even a few years ago, there was a lot more traffic, a lot more forum threads, a lot more people posting in threads, etc. I look at the list of recent topics and instead of many many new ones each day it seems there are only a few.

It is just my impression, or is Summitpost a lot less active than it used to be? And if so, what happened and where did everybody go?

I always loved and will continue to value this site for the fantastic information available here and the community of great spirits who help each other do what we love!

The forum is less active now; hits to the site are not.

As for the forum, there's a lot more competition now with social media and regional climbing forums.

Llamas didn't have much to do with climbing and as Scott said, the trolls have found a much bigger playground.

And besides that, they have their own Hollywood movie out now ...

GEM Trail, as an example, our shared state highpointing obsession: There's a VERY active closed group on Facebook (50 States Highpointing Group) that has tremendous and frequent discussion on this topic. However, when someone asks for content information, e.g. - access...routes...etc. I try to point them to the SummitPost page for the particular mountain. Social media is lousy at storing content for easy access. Sites like SP are perfect for this purpose.

There is a similar trend on 14ers.com. The daily chit chat now takes place on the FaceBook group. But the .com is where you go for actual information. summitpost is still my go-to site for anything outside of Colorado. That's why I add content when I can for more obscure highpoints we visit.

For example, when I type in keywords "enema porn"...Summitpost.com is now the first thing that pops up Google!

.

Actually tubeenama.com is the first site. Crap...I'm on a list somewhere.

Thanks for the insight, everyone. My last post on Facebook was probably in March, maybe that's why I didn't realize the high pointers and other climbers are going over there.

Too bad. The forums here have always been a great place for informed discussions about climbing related topics. I have much less faith that Facebook will be as good.
