Elk in Cattaloochee area of the Great Smokies two weeks ago. Black bear on the Black Mountain Crest Trail in November (I was moving at a good clip, surprised him and he ran like hell).

Here are the elk (and small flock of wild turkey off to the left) that I saw in the GSMNP on January 17.

The most memorable animal I've seen is an arctic fox (in Finnish Lapland). They're really rare nowadays...

It wasn't hiking, but I saw 3 Bald Eagles on my drive through Oregon yesterday. 2 were in a field with a great many small lambs, hmmmm!

The last day that we were in La Pedriza we could see many species of birds (vultures, rabilargos?, robins...) And a fox crossed the road in front of my car when driving back home

The other day a roe deer crossed in front of my car on Monte de El Pardo, Madrid. Hopefully I didn't knock it down, neither I had to brake hard

A few weeks ago I was hiking in the Soldier Mountains and spotted my first wolf, I thought it was a fox until I got within fifty feet of the thing.

Climbed LeConte (the one in TN) last week. As we were descending the peak late in the afternoon and were at the trailhead to the Rainbow Falls/Bullhead Trails and standing in the parking area there near the Old Sugarlands Trail, the local coyotes began to serenade us. Really loud, too! Don't know what that was all about, but it only lasted a couple of minutes.

I've seen a lot of the typical animals normaly seen in the Oregon Cascades, deer, elk, bobcat, coyote.........But my most recent siting was in the Wasatch Mountains. I was lucky enough to get up close and personel with an adult wild mountain goat complete with its full winter coat. Most people I talked with, 30 minutes away, in beautiful down town SLC didn't even know they existed in their own playground. I was able to get some great pics of this one.
