Hey, I'm back. Sorry, html problems. Anyway, trying to get some chatter going about your favorite wildlife experience while climbing a state highpoint. Mine was last July on Boundary Peak:

Just checked your 2011 climbing plans Alpinist and in addition to getting to 49hps you'll have 5 of 7 summits. Only problem is those last 2 sure are pricey.

There are actually 8 seven-summits, so I'll have 3 more to do after this year. (Mt Kosciuszko is the highpoint for the Australian mainland. However, Carstensz Pyramid is higher than Kosciuszko. There is some controversy over which is the "real" highpoint of Australia because Carstensz is in Indonesia, which sits on the Australian continental shelf. It's an odd situation since politically speaking Indonesia is considered part of Asia, but geographically it's part of Australia. Most people that want to do the 7-summits climb both peaks.)

You're right that the last 3 are all expensive. I'll start passing a hat around shortly...

Just picked up Mt. Washington over the weekend. That is one tough 6K peak.

What was the wind like on Washington? Gusting 60 mph here on Saturday. Can't imagine it was fun to even stand up above treeline.

I think it was gusting around 80mph above the trees when I summitted and temp was low single digits but it was very sunny which helped. We went up west side and from the hut to summit was hardest 1.5miles ever, luckily i was wearing every piece of clothing that i own so was well equipped for weather. quite the experience.

Note that some highpoints are shared such as Mt Blanc being both Italy & France's HP.

A few weeks late, but last month I attempted a 1/2 Presi Traverse from the south but whiteout conditions and 80+mph winds kept me from the Washington summit. That makes two winters Washington has kept me from the top.

The trip was overall great though. First time really using some of my winter camping gear. I'm looking forward to my Denali prep class in May, and I'm still looking for a few other climbing opportunities for this year.

Elichten someday when you do get that Mt Washington winter completed make sure you take more than one summit picture so your memories aren't forever crooked like mine...

Enjoyed a brief diversion from a work trip to Atlanta this past Thursday afternoon and "summitted" Cheaha Mtn., #23 for me. Really exceeded my expectations. Nice area once you get away from the summit towers. Pulpit Rock is not to be missed!
