Hallelujah! 'North Face' comes to the US!

No, I'm not talking about everyone's favorite yuppie apparel, but the German film 'Nordwand', about the Hinterstoissier-Kurtz-Angerer-Rainer attempt on the Eiger Nordwand, that was released last year.

It's retitled 'North Face' and will be shown in select theaters across the US. I'm stoked! Should be better than '2012' (last film I watched :( ).

I saw it in Peru in German with Spanish subtitles (I speak neither). I was a bit disappointed. Too much love story. Maybe it would be different in a language I understand.

It's a fantastic movie; I think it's the best climbing movies I've ever seen, even when compared to films like Touching the Void. It's a good movie for non-climbers too. We watched it just last night for the fifth or sixth time. It's that good!

How did you get to watch it so many times? Do you have the DVD? Where did you get it?

Have you seen:

The Lives of Others / Das Leben der Anderen

???

Nominated for Best Foreign Language Film a few years ago. It's amazing.

Or what about Das Boot?

Maybe you leaving to close to Hollywood....does not help creating a good eye for movies.....or maybe it is just like things are were you are...but just to mention a few....Fritz Lang with Metropolis, Werner Herzog with Fitzcarraldo and for climbers Scream of Stone.. and Wim Wenders with The Himmel Uber Berlin...are regarded like some of the best directors in past and recent history...and I am not German....

Awesome movie, as was Run Lola, Run / Lola Rennt, in a completely different way. Germans know movies, angst, and schadenfreude. What more do you want?

I really enjoyed this movie....probably my favorite mountaineering film that I've seen...or a close tie with eiger sanction.

It's showing at the American Mountaineering Center in Golden on January 29th, time TBD. Admission is free, last I heard.
