Hey all,

Long time lurker and user of SP info here.

I saw this image on a friend's desktop wallpaper and despite trying my hardest I just can't find its name or area.


I thought maybe it could have been in the Cascades in WA around Leavenworth but I'm just not finding anything. I even went through all 1125 thumbnails for the mountain range entries on here but still no luck. It looks like there may be a dam on that lake too...

Can anyone help me out?

Hey, Rob? I'm thinking one of the many peaks in Washington's North Cascades, just to the west of Ross Lake. Ross Lake has a dam in this area.

One of those looks like Luna Peak, but it's been so doggone long since I've been in that area.

It doesn't look like any peak I've seen in the Cascades. I haven't been everywhere, but It doesn't ring a bell. And it really doesn't look that 'Cascadian' to me.

Strathcona Park? Something up in the Vancouver Island ranges? Oh wait; it's a blue sky Maybe Julian Alps? Beautiful area

There are some search engines which try and find matching images on the internet to a file you upload. That may be an option if you find no luck here.

I'm guessing Davis Peak, which would make sense if that's Luna Peak in the distance. http://www.summitpost.org/davis-peak-wa/315322

This took me two hours*, but I'm still only 70% sure...

That is no where in Washington. That peak is granite. Yes we have some granite, but not much and that is not one of those peaks. For granite and trees like that inside the USA look at Idaho.

Not a peak in Idaho that I recognize. Plus, there is a dam on the lake. So I can say with confidence not southern Idaho.
A hint: the photo is from <www.ewallpapers.eu>, where the "eu" might indicate Europe?

That was my thought(though I've only been to Europe once), it has a European look to it, for some reason.

Redfish Lake near Stanley looks similar but is not the same. Green Lake in the Tatras is not a match.

Here's the reverse image search engine. There are several hits but they are all wallpaper sites with no clues on where the photo was taken. There are a couple of Russian websites though there's no way to tell if the photo was actually taken in Russia.

It looks like it could be a mountain in one of my photos from a trip to Stanley, ID in September. The hike that we did was Boundary Creek - Casino Creek in the White Cloud Mountains. I can't identify the peak in my photo which was from a slightly different viewpoint and included a different lake, but they do have similar features.

Correction: The hike where my photo was taken was perhaps Imogene Lake or Toxaway Lake in the Sawtooths. I didn't plan the hikes, so it's hard for me to be sure.

Did anybody mention Brokeback Mountain

The peak is not in Idaho. There are no dams anywhere near the Stanley area and all the lakes in the Sawtooths are natural. It looks European to me.
