I celebrated The Fourth of July by allowing a large boulder to fracture my ankle in two places. Rescue scenarios crossed my mind a few times after spending six hours hopping from near The Incredible Hulk to Mono Village/Twin Lakes on one leg (with a bit of limping, sliding, and crabwalking mixed in). It could have been worse. I found many more things to be thankful for than to be upset about. Calling for help was unnecessary, so I didn't. I taped myself up, made the most of my supplies, and enjoyed the scenery.

A wilderness ranger I met at a wedding last week has been rescued via helicopter a couple of times despite feeling and expressing that being rescued by an SAR team or helicopter was unnecessary (other people called for help when she got hurt). I don't have more specific details about her rescues at this point.

^^^^IDK, lcarreau; it depends on your definition of fail. I guess you qualified it with the cats of SP determining the level of fail. BTW, are there any defined scales, musical or otherwise, for such things?

I was on a serious climb last week which made me feel tired for a few days. Well at least I lived and am back in the forums. Homework however will eat up some time for the next few weeks. Whoops, accidentally posted my twitter post on the forums. (I don't actually use Twitter by the way)

We know the rules of engagement. If you tell people where you are, you can probably expect that people will call rescue on you when your reported missing. So if you don't want rescue, don't tell people where you are going. :wink: It sounds harsh, but it's the reality of the game.

I know this thread is now devoted to pigfighting and trolling, but . . .

As it has been explained to me regarding helicopter rescues in Los Angeles or San Bernardino counties, they actually cost the taxpayer nothing. The choppers and their crews need to fly a certain number of hours per month to maintain their certification; so if they aren't out there rescuing people, they will be out there anyway practicing rescuing people. That's what I'm told, anyway.

But the biggest problem with helicopter rescues, regardless of who is paying for it, is choppers are crazy dangerous and unsafe. Never set foot in one unless you have to.
