Yeah, I'll probably watch the movie. I'm sure a lot of people here will boo the movie since it is on Everest.

Does anyone know who's story this of? I read the book written by Anatoli Boukreev and I believe his acount over Krakour's. In fact Anatoly's book basically show that Krakour fabricated and lied about the tragedy. Hopefully they use information within his book (Anatoli's)

those are fighting words around these parts. although i believe boukreev's account as well.

at any rate, i read something somewhere that this is kind of a mismash of several books on the tragedy.

Was talking about this today on West McMillan Spire. I'm more curious about the tragedy on Everest that occurred this year.

Looks a little corny but I'm hyped Hollywood is picking up these types of movies again. K2 is still one of my guilty pleasures. I hate remakes but Point Break looks sick too.

Scott,
I went and saw it last night at a large Imax theater and it was pretty good. It didn't come across as the big, over dramatic Hollywood film though do to the amount of time, it leaves a lot out and focuses primarily on Rob Hall's team. Beck was a focus on the team as was Doug but all others get little time. Not much at all on Scott or his team and just a little here and there on the politics between all the teams. Anatoli also gets very little screen time and the same with Jon. They do a good job capturing the feel of a big mountain and seeing it on a 7 story 3D screen was worth the extra money. I think they also did a decent job of getting the look and feel of the gear and camps down though there are things you could pick apart. The cinematography was good and if you know Everest, the mountain, they made you feel that it was really Everest as they had a lot of actual footage.

The reviews I've seen have been good but it will be interesting to see how it goes over with the masses. I said to Krista on the way home that if you didn't know much about mountaineering or had not read any of the books on the "96" ordeal you may not get as much out of it. I'm biased of course. As with all these movies I'm sure some here will rip it apart but we enjoyed our selves.

Thanks Tonka! I plan on seeing it as well, mostly just for the cinematography. I never expect Hollywood to ever get a story correct...

Meru was a documentary and we really liked it but hard to compare the two as Everest is a big Hollywood production. Both are worth seeing in my opinion but if you had to force me on one I'd pick Meru because I already know so much about what happened in "96".

I saw it in IMAX 3D today. Agree with the comments made by Tonka in his initial post. An emotion stirring movie made all the more so by knowing how it would end. Definitely worth seeing IMO.

Go see it. I thought it was fascinating. The acting, dialogue, and cinematography was very good. I seldom go to movie theaters but didn't regret the high price for IMAX 3D.
