Hey ya'll,

I've been AWOL for awhile, and just now remembered this site. I'm looking to get started in climbing, and hoping ya'll can help me out. I'm in the North Central Texas area if that matters. I'm just getting tired of the only real physical activity I get being inside at a gym. I've thought about getting into climbing alot before, but I never knew where to look....hopefully I came to the right place.

Funny you mention Alaska. I have been trying to figure out a way to move off-grid up there for years. Just curious, is there anywhere closer that I could take those classes?

Maybe Washington but when I went the outfits over there seemed a little bit Mickey Mouse to me. I would say that in Alaska they would be a lot more professional.

Texas has plenty of outdoor climbing ... though you'd have to be nuts to climb in Texas in the summer.

This'll give you some ideas of where the outdoor climbing is:

The key to getting started is finding experienced people to climb with. See if you can join a local climbing club, climbing gym, and/or meetup group. Check your nearest universities for an outdoor activities club - you don't always have to be a student to tag along.

I live in the flat lands. Climbers aren't that easy to find around here, unfortunately.
