I wonder if he would have been in that terrain in the first place if he didn't have an avalanche airbag. The invention saves so many lives but also leads to overconfidence.

Boarding is boarding and you are not boarding back country unless you are boarding in Avalanche areas, no way around it unless you don't like shredding down hill. This guy was smart, he was boarding with an air bag. Do the same or you might not be so lucky. Mother nature doesn't care how paranoid or qualified you are, she takes them all away from us. My advice is, if you don't want to die in an Avalanche, then hang your spilt board up and give it up while you are still alive. You could dig a hundred holes on all aspects and all elevations and still ride out just like him and cut one off.

Ask my old bud Jonny RIP. He was the most paranoid about Avalanche person around.

They're certainly saving lives, but yea, you have to wonder how many people are skiing lines they normally wouldn't of because of airbags and overconfidence.

I think people make the same argument with ski helmets too.

Not to discredit the airbags, they're great. But people also need to be smart.

Not being preachy, but I "made up" this quote all by myself ...

"At the end of the day, we are SLAVES to every decision that we make."

And believe me, I've had years of experience ...
