We have lost the greatest today....to make it worse, it happened in a year with so many other deaths, however yours is different. You're the one I have looked up to more than anyone else. The one I have idolized, admired, and inspire to be. You lived the life no one has ever lived, and likely no one will ever get to experience again. You invented lifestyle climbing, and changed the culture of american climbing forever. You are probably the only one to dismiss the mantra that there are bold climbers and there are old climbers, but there are no old, bold climbers. You were certainly the exception here. RIP Fred Beckey...you will be remembered :(

Climb on man...I hope you find renewed youth and an endless sea of new mountains wherever you end up next

Yet another giant of American climbing scene is gone. Rest in peace, Mr. Beckey. Respect.

To one of the best alpinist and mountaineering pioneers the world will ever see. I feel privileged to have met him at the Bulgar party (Washington Top 100).

I'm extremely pleased they created a movie about his life just in time. He saw beyond the traditional callings of civilization and turned it into a life experience. Some say he's a legend. Others will continue to follow in his foot steps whether weekend warriors or transcending into the dirtbag life style. Beckey didn't just write history; he sought after a life worth living and made history.

Glad he was still putting up FA's in his 70's, ice climbing in his 80's, and rock climbing 5.7 when he was 92 years old. This is the man who defies the rules of age and continues on no matter how old he is.

He accomplished a lot, doing it in true "dirtbag" style. Anybody who can complete the North Ridge of Stuart has my due respect.
