I noticed on Google Earth (TM) that there is a massive 650' tall tower rising on the ridge below Mount Holly. There are no photos, no mention of it, not even anything on the topo maps? Not on Peakbagger! Not on Lists of John. Massive tower appears on Google Earth (TM). It is at 38.352133, -112.344396. Is this just a mirage?

Looks like some sort of error in the Google Earth elevations. I looked it up using Acme Mapper and Google Earth, and was about to post that I did not see what you were talking about. Then I moved the mouse a bit on Google Earth, and the "tower" appeared.

You may be right - double checked on Bing Maps TM and found it was a prominence, but not as big

Looks like an error to me. Google Earth used to have something similar in the Uintas. They seemed to think Allsop Lake's elevation was a few thousand feet higher, so it looked like an epic fantasy tower was sticking out of that basin.

For Holly, can you park at the Ski Resort parking lot, or do you have to go to Big John Flat? Seems like the Ski Resort parking is way closer.

that's what we did, with the caveat that we had permission. and also, the road to the flat was not passable or open when we went.
