I was actually going to cruise up to Pentapitch tomorrow, then while trolling the threads tonight I saw this. The bridge is gone! Crazy! No doubt the fallen trees that provide crossing west of the mouth of Hogum Fork are long gone too. So, for you exploratory Wasatch climbers, any one know of another way to get across the river near Coalpit Gulch?

A mountain biking buddy of mine was on the Quarry Trail several nights ago when that huge cloudburst came through just before dark. He said that one (of the several bridge crossings on that trail) was covered in 10 feet of fast moving water. With lightning overhead, heavy rain and a flooding river, he eventually required a resque. He said it rained so hard that the old mining rails showed back up along the trail.

As for the old bridges, they will be sorely missed by all in the Wasatch climbing community who had the oppertunity to walk across them. In their honor I will be sure to cut a couple of turns for them on Superior tomorrow.

That must have been quite the site!

By typing in "Resque" I think I might have gave some people the wrong impression......it was more like "an assisted evacuation". This is not the first time that a cloud burst has caused lots of damage. Many years back, on Box Elder Peak a similar cloud burst let put down so much water that 30 foot erosion gullies were created in Phelps Canyon and in Dry Creek Canyon.

The Gun Shot Chutes. These are just 2 of the several erosion gullies that were created by a single cloud burst on Box Elder Peak.

The Coalpit and Y Couloir bridges were not the only trageties in Little Cottonwood Canyon. The snowcat bridge for Snowbird inbetween Wilber and Mid Gad is completely gone/washed away. All that remains is the now old cement structures.
