I believe Early Winters (now Sahalee) was the first company to use Gore-Tex (brand name!) in outdoor products. Jon Krakauer famously burnt an Early Winter's tent down on his solo of the Devil's Thumb.

Thanks for your comments. Interesting that Early Winters is still around albeit under a different name. I had read somewhere that Bibler, Garuda and Early Winters were using similar fabric that had the fuzzy interior laminate that helped disperse moisture and cut down on condensation. Anyway I looked at a label on the inside of the hood and the brand name of the laminate reads like Coretex but I suppose the C is really a modified G?

ByroTex, Todd Tex, Integral Tex and Gore Tex are all the same material; expanded polytetrafluorethylene. Gore Tex no longer licenses its material for use in tents, thus the non proprietary versions in the various single wall tent manufactureres
I had an beautiful heavy wool Early Winters sweater for many years. Sahalee does not make technical garments or gear any more, just life style clothing.

Thanks for the info. I've got to thinking and I'm going to hold on to this for awhile yet.
