SP emails

I received an email message from a new SP user (seems pretty legit), and tried to reply, but the 'From:' header was "SummitPost.org <no-reply@summitpost.org>". What's up with that ??

I guess I could just look up his username and send him a PM, but that seems kind of unwieldy. Anyway, thought someone in the code department might want to know :)

I think its a plot by the MLC SC. They control what the elves do you know.

Yes. Why, it's like Nazi Germany here all the time!

I think the anti-spam thing's working fairly well. Several years here, and only one spam message has gotten through to my actual email. More have landed in the SP email, but that's more expected and less annoying. I do miss my messages from Dora and Mr. Ooobaga, though... no one's offered me millions of dollars lately.

Actually this has nothing to do with spam protection. What protectional purpose does it serve when I send you an email and the "from" address is a generic one instead of mine? This rather fosters spamming if anything as my identity remains unknown.
The reason is likely a purely technical one - emails sent through code (an application) use default values unless otherwise specified, and no-reply@ would simply be the default "from" address. Thus it's just missing functionality.

I've never had Spam via SP. And my own SP is getting very good at eliminating SPAM as well. From the days of getting up to 100 a day, I can go several days now without even one turning up. :D

Of course what I don't know is how much of my normal mail is being eliminated by my ISP Spam protection!

Indeed. I'm pretty sure that no one cares though. Also technically that's forging the "from" address which many spam filters don't like. The best and up-to-date solution would be to put the user's details inside the email body.
