Meduim Sized Portrait Photos

I notice that in my pages that the medium sized portrait photos are now much smaller than when I originally created them. Is this a permanent change?

I'm not sure if it's related, but I noticed on my profile page that the profile photo has shrunk. It used to be resized to a width of 500, so it was 500x750. Now it has been resized to 333x500, so possibly the height is now limited to 500 as well?
No big deal either way, but I just figured it might not have been intentional.

I noticed the same on my new page. I like the new medium more; the old medium was too big to use.

I sure didn't mind the old medium; it was a good size for display in the forums. I do notice that I look younger in the new format.

There is one problem with it; because the photos are actually stored at a larger size, they appear slightly distoreted when displayed on the page.
Is it possibe to make all new medium portrait photos to be stored on the server at this new size?

I preferred the larger sized photos. On my monitor, which is very large and high resolution, the medium images are about the size of a playing card. I think as folks move to larger, higher resolution monitors, they will find this new size to be unsatisfyingly small. I find it ironic that just the other day I defended SP's large, original image size by citing the problems with small images on FB, and now as SP shrinks images for the medium size (which is the most commonly used on pages), FB is moving to larger images because of user demand.

Only the default sizes have been changed. You can still post photos any size you like, and even have the frame around it.

I picked this trick up using the "View Source" method in MoapaPk's quote above. Sometimes (well often) I want to put a photo on a mountain page but not be constrained to a thumbnail, small, medium, or large size. There are several ways to insert photos adjusted to any size you want, but the code below will let you do so while keeping the standard frame around the photo we are all familiar with on SummitPost pages.

This places the photo in the center. For left or right alignment take out the word center and the symbols around it at the beginning and end of the code. The replace 'thumb' with 'thumb tright' or 'thumb tleft'.
Replace the ?????? with the image ID. Replace the XX0 and XX2 with the image width you would like, keeping the first number two pixels higher ('700' and 702px for example). Then write the photo caption in the appropriate place.
